This is my first cel animation, and it was all created in Photoshop between my 3rd and 4th year at SVA (2015-2016), it was a long but fun process as I was exploring frame by frame animation, illustration and hand-lettering at the same time, for the first time.
I love textures, Illustration and typography and I wanted to narrate a short story in a visual way using these elements, I just didn't know what story. So the journey of finding the right track began. I thought I should work with a compilation of my favorite quotes from songs. Then I thought, maybe I should take an excerpt of a song.
In 2013 Daft Punk had released their new album Random Access Memories (to the joy of some and the hate of others), and by 2015 my friends and I hadn't gotten over it, we had the vinyl and would play it at home while we worked on school stuff. I noticed the album already came with short stories around the collaborating artists of each track, but it was especially appealing to me how they had integrated Giorgio Moroder's storytelling in the intro of the track "Giorgio by Moroder". After reading more about Moroder's life and career I was even more fascinated to use this track.
About the style, I wanted it to feel "disco", like everything was dancing, and the "70's colors" were an inspiration for the color palette.
